At first, “mind your own business” might sound harsh, but in this case, it is actually a gentle reminder to stay in your own lane, so to speak. Minding your own business, at its heart, is focusing on what you can control and letting go of what you can’t. It is taking responsibility for your own thoughts and actions, and letting other people take responsibility for their own thoughts and actions.
Minding your own business doesn’t mean evading responsibility or ignoring the world around you. It simply means knowing when it’s best to avoid interfering. Here are some reasons why it is important to practice the art of “minding your own business”.
- It helps you grow, simply because it’ll have you channeling all your energy into what’s important; your life and the things you really care about.
- Creativity. Keeping your mind free of clutter keeps you in the present and makes room for creativity.
- Freedom. You can do whatever you want, led by your inner guide. You’re not shackled by the opinions of others.
- Balance. Taking on other people’s problems can throw you off balance, at the expense of your own well being.
- Confidence. When you follow your own compass, you develop the skills and abilities that are inherently yours. Each success builds on itself, preparing you for even greater challenges.
- Potential. By redirecting energy that would otherwise get burned trying to stay up with others, you have much more to direct towards your own goals.
- Peace and happiness results from minding your own business. When you mind your own business you are always at peace with yourself. Since you don’t call for drama and drama don’t call you; you are always at peace to plan for your life on how to achieve your goals.
Minding your own business can be hard. It involves actual labor, confronting your mistakes and inner demons, working out relational conflicts, practicing self-discipline, and making sacrifices. But, The better you captain your own ship, the smoother your sailing will be.
